In the measurement network composed of two or more electro-optic theodolites,to acquire the spatial position of the t arget quickly,an intersection approach based on the direction cosine is put forw ard is this paper.According to the real-time geometrical relationship between t he measured ob ject and the electro-optic theodolites, this method makes use of the theodolites positions and their real-time angle information of the measured object to cons t ruct the direction cosine for every theodolite. The coordinates of the measured o bject are estimated by using the weighted algorithm. The results show that compar e d with the real-time measured data from the radar, the coordinates produced by t his method are smooth and unfluctuating during tracking close range objects, the posi ti on error of the two kinds of devices is less than 0.5m,so this method can meet the needs of the high-precision positioning.
