To solve the problems of visual discomfort caused by the stereoscopic images, this paper investigates the contrast parameter of binocular image pairs c ombining the characteristics of human visual system(HVS).With the four-neighbor contrast calculation method and the subjec tive assessment experiment,we not only get the comfortable normalized contrast matching map and difference map ,but also verify the universal applicability of both two maps. The experimental results show that the maximu m value of the normalized contrast dismatch threshold between the left view and the right view varies in d egree according to the normalized contrast of the left view, ranging from 1.18to -2.04.At the same time, the pr imary eye and secondary eye also play a significant role. The contrast-increasing area is larger than the contrast-d ecreasing area,so the decrease of the contrast will influence the comfort of the stereoscopic images more greatly than the increase of the contrast. With the two maps,we can judge whether a binocular stereoscopic image is comfortable rapidly, and the accurate rate is very high, reaching 90%.The research can provide a basis for the assessme nt of binocular stereoscopic image pairs and the development of stereoscopic display technology.
