Abstract:A series of Er3+/Tm3+/Yb3+:Ag-bismuth germanate glass n anoco mposites were prepared by the conventional melting-quenching method.The absorption bands show that the surface plasmon re sonance (SPR) peak of Ag nanoparticles (NPs) appears around 545nm.Transmission electron microscopic imag e clearly reveals homogeneously dispersed Ag NPs with the size from 6nm to 18nm.The effect of nano-silver add it ion on the upconversion (UC) properties in Er3+/Tm3+/Yb3+ codoped bismuth germanate glasses is investiga ted.With the precipitation of the Ag NPs,more intense blue(472nm),green(525nm,543nm) and red(661nm) UC emission bands are observ ed up to 3.2,3.8,5.4,2.3folds in the glass containing 1wt% AgCl,respectively.
