Abstract:A novel tunable incoherent photonic microwave filter based on electro-absorptio n modulator (EAM) is proposed in this paper.Firstly,when the EAM is modulated by a radio frequency (RF) signal,an optical single sideband is generated by filtering the lower sideband.Then an extra phase shift will be int roduced to the upper sidebands of the modulated signal by simply changing the bias voltage applied on EAM.Because the chirp of EAM depends on the bias voltage applied on EAM,the extra phase shift can be introduced by the chirp.As a result,when it is detected by a photodetector (PD),a tunable phase shifter is realized.Finally,inc orporating the phase shifter system with the other laser diode and delay line,a tunable two-tap incoherent photonic microwave fi lter with complex coefficient can be realized.The shape of the proposed filter won′t be altered,and the filter can be tuned by adjusting the bias voltage.
