We present an overview fo the most prestigious international conference in the field of lasers and optoelectronics,2005 OLEO/QELS/PhAST,held on May 22-27, in Baltimore,Maryland, USA. The recent advances and future development perspectives in research and technology development of cutting edge lasers and optoelectronics are briefly outlined.
