Abstract:A kind of novel architecture of variable length optical packet switching ring network using wavelength as optical packet label was proposed. The models of optical packet transmitter and receiver are also presented. The multi-token protocol was introduced to avoid optical packets collision in this paper. The characteristics of the node throughput and optical packet time delay were studied through numeric simulation over 4-nodes, 8-nodes and 16-nodes ring networks. The result shows that packet delay, node throughput and resource utilization increase with the network load increasing. The more network nodes, the larger network throughput.
