Abstract:A method for obtaining two-dimension non-circular-symmetrical optical cavities was introduced by applying a variable electrical field(VEF) on a pendant liquid drop. The equatorial plane of a pendant drop is an ideal circular cavity, when the pendant drop is inserted into the middle of one pair of transparent electrode, the electrical field applies an electrostatic force on the polarized pendant drop and then effectively changes the shape of the equatorial plane of the pendant drop.A series of non-circular-symmetrical optical cavities with variable shape parameters can be formed just by adjusting the electrostatic field.
